Mecca is the holiest city in Islam and no non-Muslims are allowed to enter because the Quran calls them "nijs" or "impure".
Rome is the holiest city of the Roman Catholic Church and is home to tens of thousands of Muslims and the center of a great mosque. Doesn't this show a great difference between Muslim tolerance and Western tolerance? Is this yet another Muslim double standard? Posted by Rahym Salami

Ignorance is even worse then impurity. It's not Rome but the Vatican, home to the Catholic Church, how many Muslims are practicing Islam in the Vatican? Rome is a secular city in a secular state not the Vatican
Let me know when the pope is ready to have a Mosque in the Vatican, besides if you want to talk about double standards then check out this story from 2002 where the church intervened to prevent a Mosque being constructed in Nazareth in Israel http://www.cathnews.com/news/203/20.php As far as I am concerned Christianity is through paul and roman roots. The Vatican has no claim over places such as Nazareth and no right to interfere. In 2004 the Vatican rejected a petition by Muslim in Spain to worship at Cordoba Mosque which was built by Spanish Muslims yet later when the church forces took over Spain they converted it to a Cathedral On the other hand in 2001 John Paul II visited the Omayyad Mosque in Damascus and prayed before the tomb of St. John the Baptist. Get your facts right before start talking about tolerance. Posted by TheMehdi

Do not take me wrong here ok. Since I am still learning about ISlam, but I meant to ask a similar question about the tolerance of Muslims.
Are Christians tolerated and are they allowed to worship freely in their own way in Islamic states? And can they build churches if they want to? I am considering the fact that there are Muslims worshipping freely all over the world in Christians countries where there is freedom of religion. But it has been mentioned that in Islamic states Christianity can't be practiced publicly, but in secret. I would appreciate it if Mehdi would tell me a lil more about that. I read your post but it still leaves me questioning. Posted by Virgi

I visited the web page you had Mehdi and it also says that alternative sites were suggested for the construction of the mosque. That still tells of tolerance

For me, Christian, Vatican doesn't have any matter.
The picture of a true tolarance in my sociaty - near my house in one place under 5 steps from each other there are Muslim's mosque, Christian Orthodox Church and Jewish synagogue. Roman Catholics aren't whole world and good example. Posted by Alyona
